What is Internet of Things?

„A global network infrastructure, linking physical and virtual objects using cloud computing, data capture, and network communications. It allows devices to communicate with each other, access information on the Internet, store and retrieve data, and interact with users, creating smart, pervasive and always-connected environments.“  (Charalampos Doukas) The IoT creates opportunities for more direct integration of the physical world into computer-based systems resulting in improved efficiency, accuracy and economic benefit in addition to reduced human intervention.

What is LPWAN?

LPWAN is a type of wireless telecommunication network designed to allow long range communications at a low bit rate among things (connected objects), such as sensors operated on a battery. With decreased power requirements, longer range and lower cost than a mobile network, LPWANs are targeted to enable a wide range of IoT applications.

What is LoRa®?

LoRa® is a low power radio technology enabling long range communications by sensors and actuators for IoT applications. A single base station can cover whole districts of a city or hundreds of square kilometres.

What is LoRaWAN?

LoRaWAN™ is a Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) specification that defines a network architecture and protocol for device communication, intended for wireless battery operated devices in a regional, national or global network. The main obstacle to adapt Internet of Things has been lack of suitable communication solutions. NORAnet is here to fill this gap by providing LoRaWAN® standard communication network.
